JARED DECK

“Deck makes ears take notice with a powerful honky tonk soul vibrato that would make Nathaniel Rateliff sound like a rookie.”

— GLIDE MAGAZINE

Jared Deck didn’t mean to give up his music career, he just needed to get by. During the pandemic, he found a full time job in political organizing which ultimately led to him running for and winning election to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives.

“Head Above Water” speaks to the blue-collar struggle of getting ahead in a getting by world. Winner of the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival songwriting contest, Deck sings of hard work and hard luck, harkening upon his days as an outsourced factory worker, an oil field roughneck, and a full gospel church musician.

Produced by Dwight Hamlin of The Wight Lighters, the album features performances by Hamlin,  vocalist James Cook, keyboardist Dan Walker of Heart, fiddler Jake Simpson of The Lil Smokies,  and drummer Colby Bunch of Holly Beth and Lance Roark.

“Jared Deck channels the pissed-off, politically minded punch of John Mellencamp, Steve Earle, and other heartland-rock greats.”

“When the music stops and Deck sings a cappella, you’ll understand how gifted a vocalist he is.”
